Alaska Center for Rural Health and Health Workforce
The Alaska Center for Rural Health & Health Workforce (ACRH-HW) is dedicated to strengthening
Alaska鈥檚 health workforce, with a focus on rural communities and addressing workforce
shortages. The Center oversees various programs, including the Alaska Area Health
Education Centers (AHEC), which operate through six regional community-based centers
across the state. As part of the 彩神vlll争霸's role as the state's
health campus, the Center supports health program planning, community partnerships,
and intercampus collaboration. It provides a statewide framework to support health
workforce development, from career exploration and training to continuing education.
Sarah Beam, assistant professor of medical education for WWAMI, recently led a tour of 彩神vlll争霸鈥檚 anatomy lab, where students from undergraduate, occupational therapy, and medical programs gain hands-on experience learning from real human donors.
Della Keats was an Iñupiaq healer whose legacy in traditional healing resonates across Alaska. In her honor, 彩神vlll争霸 offers programs to support rural and Alaska Native students pursuing careers in health care.
This summer, high school students in the Della Keats Program, administered by 彩神vlll争霸鈥檚 WWAMI School of Medical Education, spent four immersive weeks at 彩神vlll争霸's Anchorage campus, engaging in health science coursework and experiencing residential life.
The Della Keats program introduces students from all parts of Alaska to college courses, dorm life and big-city educational opportunities specific to health-science.
